This is an all new design/construction of a single-family five bedroom, 3500 sq ft house in Santa Monica, California. The site is located on a rather monotonous residential street with conventional bungalow style single story houses. The site had two very high walls at rear; the concept was to reverse view orientation and integrate internal living with the garden. By putting the living space at the back of the site, away from the street, we were able to utilize the garden and integrate the garden with the interior through use of continuous materials such as interior concrete flooring that transitioned into concrete pavers in the garden.
