This
is a renovation of an existing mid-century track house.
The house is situated on a street of almost identical
appearing houses, with the orientation to the hillside
view at the back of the lot. The existing spaces consisted
of very small, contained rooms with low ceilings,
giving the house a very enclosed feeling. We removed
all the walls in the living areas, between the kitchen,
hallway, and dining rooms to create a single open
space, optimizing ceiling height by exposing the beams
of the roof above. The space was articulated to take
advantage of the full view of the hills and trees
beyond, from all of the living area.
